This paper brings to light George Bernard Shaw’s links to the theory and practice of translation, which are relatively unknown to translation scholars. A Translator’s Note he wrote as a preface to his translation of a play by his German translator, Siegfried Trebitsch, is reprinted here. The paper provides an in-depth study of the Translator’s Note, and the correspondence, collaboration and friendship between the two playwrights.
