Abstract
Linguistics has long been recognized to be a vital component of translator’s training. This chapter sets out to examine a number of subdisciplines of the field that seems particularly relevant to translation, especially those that have undergone major development over the past few decades. Though the subdisciplines dealt with doubtless reflect the special interests of the author, there has been an effort to achieve as much breadth as possible within the available space.
