Abstract

The Bible Societies try to make the Bible relevant to a wide audience. The words are there, in the Hebrew and the Greek for those who know these ancient languages, and in numerous translated versions. However, the Bible often remains a dosed book. Some readers find that the Bible speaks their language in a way they find strange, or that it offers a message that is irrelevant. It could also be that the very medium it is presented in has lost its appeal, this especially for youngsters. When faced with such reactions one is not wrong, to look for alternatives to printed text when trying to communicate the Bible message. So, instead of offering the traditional verbal forms of the texts the Bible Society uses other means of communication such as drama, music, or video games. This paper examines the theoretical implications of such an approach.
