The author, who translated 6,000 pages from oral recordings of Cixous’s seminars into English, states that, when translated, words evoke different images than in the original text, therefore causing a different kind of emotion on the reader. The translation of these seminars proved to be very difficult, because these ones are oral texts, and their transcription in written French is already a kind of translation; besides, Cixous, in her academic work, constantly refers to other writers such as Joyce, Lispector, or Kafka, so translating their texts. The translator, concludes Conley, must then try to minimize the betrayal of these multiple translations.
