Abstract
From her own experience of translating L’Indiade into Hindustani, the author elaborates the metaphors of the erotics of translation, and of the translator as a mother: translating means yielding to the seduction of the other’s text; and to combine the other (text or language) and the “Flesh of your own words” implies becoming “the M/other”. Aneja also stresses the violence that translation always carries, especially when it consists in rendering a postcolonial text into a European language. This essay blends personal memories, political reflections, and images of the sculptural work of the author related to the issues discussed in it.
