This contribution is designed to illustrate the teaching of translation between Italian and English. It is not meant to, as the training situation referred to here is specifically that of professionals who have to learn how to translate out of their mother tongue into English in order to meet the needs of the market. The paper mainly focuses on the situation in Italy and exclusive reference is made to Italian to English translation, a relatively closely-related language pair, and to a class/exam room situation that would not normally involve highly specialized text types or an excessive degree of structural complexity.
