Abstract

Elementary errors are still a common feature of multilingual tourist brochures, making it obvious that translation is still not given the professional attention now taken for granted in most other aspects of the tourist trade. This paper does aims to approach the problem of translation for the tourist industry by investigating the tourist brochure as a text type within the context of Translation Studies today. Then, the paper looks at the advertising conventions found in tourist brochures from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds, and finally create texts which harmonise with those conventions and fulfil their function as instruments of persuasion.
