Abstract

Anthony Pym suggests that linguistic mediation is only worthwhile if it can promote long-term cooperation between cultures. In his article he attempts to analyze the specificity of localization as a form of linguistic mediation. Pym gives us three reasons why we should be studying and analyzing linguistic mediation rather than a restrictively narrow notion of translation. Later on in the article, localization is seen as a form of mediation, incorporating both translation and adaptation. At the end of his text, Pym goes more deeply into the technological aspects of localization and offers some guidelines for the future.
