Abstract

This paper sets out to attempt to answer the following questions: 1) in what ways are the overall strategy, the concept and the ‘philosophy’ of the translator present in the resulting target language texts and how can they be detected? 2) if a given text in a source language is used to prepare several translations in a target language, by either the same or a different translator, is it possible to discern a fundamental strategic, conceptual or philosophical modification, or are there only relatively unimportant superficial differences (as concerns the language and the method); in other words, do language and other differences reflect some kind of change in the basic concept and, if so, what are the underlying reasons for this?
