The quantity of legal texts in need of translation in Hungary has increased substantially since the mid-1980s, due to the development of the country’s new political and economic institutional systems. This paper embarks upon a few practical problems of translating German legal discourse into Hungarian, but the paper first outlines some theoretical issues independent of the immediate issue of translation.
