Abstract

This paper aims at describing certain techniques and strategies used by two Hungarian translators in translating the same American popular comedy. The American comedy in question is The Odd Couple written by Neil Simon, a popular Broadway playwright who has been widely-performed in Hungary as well. Because of the limited scope of the paper, it does not attempt to describe all the possible approaches neither to theatre text translation in general, nor to comedy translation in particular. Instead, the paper intends to focus its attention on certain salient features of the given Hungarian translations.
