Abstract

Audiovisual means have become the main vehicle for the transmission of information, culture and ideology. Through these means, the different cultures of the planet have been able to get to know each other. Only one barrier prevents that the audiovisual products of a cultural community can be consumed directly in another cultural community: language. In this sense, audiovisual translation has become one of the most practiced varieties of translation all over the world. For this reason, it requires attention. The author of this article states that, for the analysis of audiovisual texts, at least some contributions of translation theory and movie studies are necessary. Finally, an overview is given on audiovisual translation, as well as from the professional point of view, as from the point of view of translatology and cinematography.
