Abstract

This article is the written report of a lecture that was given by the author . The author first discusses the position of Dutch as a world language. Furthermore, the author discusses the fact that Dutch is often very poorly instructed at Dutch schools: this is the reason why texts, that were translated into Dutch, are often of a very poor quality. Even some official texts, dissertations, advertisements… are sometimes very poorly written. The author stresses that translating is a profession that requires an aptitude, the speaker contends that you can only have a good translator once every ten years.
