Abstract
It is the aim of this paper to discuss some essentially pragmatic aspects of the translation and translatability into English of Finnish sentences containing one or more word-final items (often referred to as clitics). The paper first discusses some general aspects of translating and translatability and then discusses some particular aspects of translating or Finnish sentences / words with clitics into English. The Finnish clitics that are being discussed are -kin/-kaan, -han and -pa. The author provides the reader with examples throughout the text. The author concludes that the clitics are a major, but not an insurmountable problem for translators working from Finnish into English.
