Abstract

This paper is concerned with the role of genre in the strategy of translation and adaptation adopted by Renaissance writers. It is argued, more particularly, that the different approaches developed in this respect by a poet and dramatist like P.C. Hooft are a direct consequence of the nature and function of the different genres in which he was working.
