The present report is an outline for a prospective investigation on drama translation. The author's intention is to view the translation of dramatic compositions as a part of an open system, i.e. the process of staging and performing a play. The observations are based on the 25 years' experience. The source languages are English, Russian and French, the target language is Latvian. One of the objectives of the present research is to reveal the translation of drama as a creative process. At the present stage, no references are made to either theory of theatre or translation.
