The means of phonetic expression are aimed at achieving the most precise shade of the meaning and imparting a melodic effect to the utterance. The paper is concerned with the ways of depicting means of phonetic expression in the target language on the basis of a fiction translation, namely that of the Latvian author A. Bels "Cikstoni" as translated in English by C. Mosely - "The wrestlers". The writer actually imposes his own pattern with regard to his chosen theme and the way of presenting. Phonological choices form a distinct level of his style.
