Chassigneux, André and Évelyne Clavaud. 1992. En dépit du bon sens, le paradoxe du traducteur [Despite common sense, the translator's paradox]. Meta 37 (2) : 204–213.

Abstract

This article starts with a discussion between Bernard Pivot and Jérôme Lherer, the translator of José Cárcel Mayor, a famous Argentinean writer. By “witnessing” this conversation, the author of the article discusses the role of the translator and his use in the translation process. Are translators faithful to their source texts? Are they objective enough? Under which circumstances do translators work?
