Abstract
One tries to find out why the public in certain countries prefers dubbed films while in other countries, subtitling is popular. To know the importance of each of those translation forms in a given country, these forms need to be studied as linguistic phenomena and as elements of cinematographic expression. This leads to the study of different characteristics in the cinematographic production of several countries. The author demonstrates that the choice of the translation form leans on several factors of cultural and linguistic identity of a country. It is possible to identify the constants among the expressed factors.
