Abstract

The analysis of the types of errors helps advance the science of translation. Using corpus linguistics and data processing, it is now possible to gather a large number of translations performed by a given translator and analyze them to understand both the translator and the translation process. In this paper, the author attempts to determine the competence of certain Web-based translation engines (and, by extension, of machine translation), based on a corpus of their actual production.
