Contrastive pragmatics

Pragmatics, as the science of language use, cannot ignore the variability of language resources from which choices have to be made, both when producing utterances, and when interpreting them. As one of the key notions for pragmatics (cf. Verschueren 1999: chapter 2), therefore, it occupies the center stage in various approaches in the field.
