Abstract
This paper examines the hypothesis that when language is processed the sensorimotor system is also involved, in relation to verbs that denote hand actions, foot actions and actions in which no body part is involved. In this study 15 German native monolingual speakers were exposed to verbal stimuli comprising 144 such action verbs in German while being checked for their neurophysiological behavior. The findings suggest that hand and foot sources were activated in all three verb conditions, yet hand verbs elicited higher amplitudes than foot verbs, thereby corroborating theories of embodied cognition.
