Abstract
A review of six volumes on metaphor. Of the six books, three adopt the currently fashionable view of metaphor outlined by Lakoff and Turner, one has no apparent theoretical foundation, and two espouse the traditional view of metaphor as "deviant" language. It is suggested that the books be read with the idea of determining whether their theories are "intuitively satisfying." (Copyright 1992, Sociological Abstracts, Inc., all rights reserved.)
