Abstract

Kaindl observes that opera translation has long been unknown territory for translation studies. He attributes this to the fact that it is a complex phenomenon belonging to the scope of different disciplines (including music, theatre and literary studies), thus exceeding the limits of translation studies. The author sets out to develop an interdisciplinary research frame for studying opera translation. He draws on the above-mentioned disciplines for analytical tools and research models.
