Abstract

The articles in this book deal with the teaching practice of translation. Articles that have been published before have been revised and updated. Their terminology has been made uniform and takes into account recent achievements in the field. The first four parts of the book discuss methodological aspects and show that it is possible and highly desirable to structure the teaching practice around clearly defined learning objectives. The reflection then moves on to the often problematic connections between theory and practice. While the usefulness of theory is not always obvious to students, there is theory and theory, and it is the manner in which to tie the theoretical concepts to practice that counts. In the third part, the author proposes a classification of translation manuals and conducts a thorough examination of metalanguage used by the authors of these manuals to obtain a discourse on translation and teaching. Finally, the fourth and last part recalls that translation is the subject of specialised education in specialised schools as it is a profession in its own right. The book, which is not a practical instruction manual, wants to help feed reflection on general translation pedagogy.
