Abstract

This paper is based on Marxist materialism and the theory of embodied-cognitive interpreting studies (ECIS), constructing the relationship between “human” and “machine” from the embodied-cognitive perspective, specifically addressing the convergence of human interpreting and machine interpreting. It introduces a new paradigm of embodied-cognitive interpreting—human-machine collaboration. The study retrospects and penetratively explores embodied-cognitive interpreting studies and research on human-machine collaboration. It establishes a model of human-machine collaboration, featuring machine interpreting with artificial intelligence and human interpreting with cognitive flexibility. It argues for the characteristics of embodied cognitive interpreting theory, outlines the research path of embodied cognitive interpreting studies, and provides forward-looking ideas for the future of interpreting practice, teaching, and research. This research not only enriches the content of interpreting studies but also clarifies the direction for the future development of human-machine interpreting, guiding interpreting research in China towards a more digitally intelligent and in-depth direction.
