This book on Dependency Grammar approaches the notion from the point of view of historical epistemology. It provides a wealth of analyses of great interest for the study of linguistic ideas. It also tackles the question of the exact relationship that can be established between the work of Lucien Tesnière (1893–1954), mainly his Eléments de syntaxe structurale (1959, second edition 1966), and the methodological and theoretical framework of dependency grammar.
