La publication d’un texte en traduction dépend des politiques éditoriales, c’est-à-dire de l’ensemble des choix et des stratégies adoptées par des agents éditoriaux (éditeurs, rédacteurs en chef, traducteurs, agents littéraires) (voir Agents of translation ) en fonction d’objectifs et de valeurs d’ordre culturel, politique ou économique. Ces politiques, qui sont partiellement conscientes, peuvent être reconstruites au moyen d’archives, d’entrevues et d’analyse quantitative des catalogues des maisons d’édition ou des tables des matières de revues, à partir desquelles on peut observer leur cohérence et leur évolution.
