Євроцентризм [Eurocentrism]

Взагалі-то, « євроцентризм » або « європоцентризм » (‘Euro-centrism’) означає бачення світу під європейським кутом зору. Оскільки євроцентризм часто пов’язують з європейською колонізацією інших частин світу, то сам термін було запроваджено у період деколонізації. Аналогічними термінами, що виражають геокультурний погляд (хоча вони й пов’язані з різними історичними періодами та виникли за дуже різних обставин), можна назвати америкоцентризм, китаєцентризм або афроцентризм. Використання терміну « євроцентризм » є притаманним не лише перекладознавству (Translation Studies). Подібні дискусії на аналогічну тему ведуться (з різним ступенем завершення розгляду питання) і в інших галузях науки, як-от, в царині наук суспільних (прикладом чого може служити фундаментальна праця в галузі медіазнавства Елли Шохат та Роберта Стема (Shohat and Stam 1994).
