Першим запитанням, що може виникнути у читача цієї статті Енциклопедії, є: «Вплив на що?». Поза всяким сумнівом, було б надзвичайно цікаво розглянути вплив теорії перекладу на інші дисципліни. Коли останні, наприклад, культурологія, починають застосовувати поняття «поворот до перекладу» (Bassnett 1998) або коли ми натрапляємо на вживання цього самого терміна «поворот до перекладу» (Translational turn) в гуманітарних науках загалом, то можна припустити, що теорія перекладу (translation theory) чи перекладознавство (translation studies) або міркування про переклад (translation reflection) все ж таки якось впливає на навколишній світ і поза межами перекладознавства (Translation Studies). Переклад – це не просто продуктивна метафора, розмірковування про переклад як діяльність можна розглядати і як «корисний метод» аналізу багатьох інших питань в гуманітарних науках (див. Slavova 2011: 454, яка посилається на Джин Боуз-Байер (Jean Boase-Beier)). Якими б цікавими, однак, не видавалися такі перспективи, доцільно одразу ж чітко заявити, що вплив на інші дисципліни не входить до змісту цієї статті. Тут ми плануємо розглянути вплив теорії перекладу та перекладознавства на сам світ перекладу, включаючи практику перекладу, навчання перекладу і нарешті, що не менш важливо, – перекладачів.
