Kas hiphop on suulise kirjanduse vorm? Kas neoklassitsistliku Prantsusmaa les belles infidèles [kaunid truudusetud] on tõlked või pigem adaptsioonid (adaptation)? Kas näiteks Polanski „Oliver Twisti“ 2005. aasta filmiadaptsiooni portugali- või hollandikeelsed subtiitrid on midagi sellist, mis võiksid kvalifitseeruda ilukirjandustõlkeks? Selle artikli pealkirjas ühendatud mõisteid – „kirjandus“ ja „tõlge“ – on teadagi keeruline määratleda. Mõnevõrra samamoodi nagu Luigi Pirandello tegelased näidendis „Kuus tegelast autorit otsimas“ on ka kirjandus- ja tõlketeadus kumbki omal moel – ja vahepeal sama rada pidi – kulutanud palju energiat, üritades leida ja piiritleda teemasid, mis peaksid olema nende raison d’être [olemasolu põhjus].
