Ми виходимо з того, що у людей є інтуїтивне відчуття релевантності (доречності), а отже, відповідно, вони можуть відрізнити актуальну інформацію від другорядної, або, в деяких випадках, актуальнішу з менш актуальної інформації. Проте, це відчуття не дуже легко виявити або використовувати як доказ. Факт існування звичного мовного поняття релевантності з невизначеним і змінним значенням є радше перешкодою, аніж допомогою.
