Bilim çevirisi en az bilimin kendisi kadar eskidir. Hem bilgi birikimi oluşturma hem de yaymadaki rolü sayesinde çeviri, bilimsel ilerlemede en az öğretim ve araştırma kadar önemlidir. “Bilim” sözcüğüyle burada doğayı, örneğin insan vücudunu anlamak için rasyonel yöntemlerle yürütülen araştırmalar kastediliyor; dolayısıyla tıp bilimi de bu kapsama giriyor.
