プロセス志向の研究は記述的翻訳研究の主要な3つの研究分野の1つである (Holmes 1988/2000)。従って、プロセス志向の研究には強い実証的基盤があり、個々の翻訳者に焦点を当て、翻訳に関わる認知プロセスの本質を理解することを目的としている。
