Chapter 2
Psycholinguistics

Assignment 1

If an aphasic deaf signer (with a left hemisphere lesion) had to describe the route to his/her house to a stranger, what kind of errors might s/he make and why?

If the signer is right-handed and language is predominantly located in the left hemisphere, then s/he should not have any problems with topographic information since that type of information would be affected by a lesion in the right hemisphere. The signer might have problems in describing the route in terms of the language structures needed since these are usually affect by a left hemisphere lesion.

The figure from the book can be used to discuss the differences between the functioning of the left and right hemispheres and the larger amount of posterior activity.
