Текст перекладу визначається тут як текст, що виконує чи намагається виконувати певну функцію в культурі носіїв мови перекладу (у відповідності до переліку експліцитних або імпліцитних інструкцій, який називають « завданням замовника на переклад »), і який має співвідноситися в перекладацькій площині з іншим текстом іншою мовою. Особливості такого перекладацького співвіднесення (пор. з переказом, адаптацією (Adaptation)) можуть варіюватися в різних культурах. Ця стаття виходить з того, що текст перекладу є результатом взаємодії соціальних учасників (принаймні автора тексту оригіналу, цільових адресатів і перекладача) та мети перекладу.
