“Translation at the start of the new millennium has come into its own at last”: with these words Susan Bassnett opens the thematic issue of Textus on Translation Studies revisited in her introductory note “Translation 2000—Difference and Diversity”. Both this optimistic attitude and the fact that a journal devoted to English Studies in Italy turns its attention towards Translation Studies are of interest. In fact, until the end of the 1990s, Italian culture did not seem to pay such broad, generalised attention to the questions of translation, with a few notable exceptions, both on a theoretical and on a practical level.
