Le nombre de publications sur la traduction audiovisuelle (TAV) connaît une augmentation exponentielle : 41 livres sont parus entre 2007 et 2011, soit une moyenne de 8 par an. Et dans cette production, ce ne sont pas forcément les formes de TAV les plus répandues (sous-titrage inter-linguistique, doublage) qui sont les plus observées. Surtout, il y a répétition des problématiques, ou comment par exemple les formes de politesse, les jurons, les éléments culturels, les dialectes, etc., sont traduits. On a alors des études de cas, sans renouvellement ni approfondissement des méthodologies, des concepts.
