Over the last 10 to 15 years the theory of translation has won independence from systemic linguistics and has become more than a by-product of philological research. Major studies like those by Wilss, Hönig and Kußmaul, Reiß and Vermeer, Holz-Mänttäri, Snell-Hornby, Krings and Nord have stimulated a lively discussion among a growing number of participants in learned journals.
