The name of Peter Newmark is well known among translation scholars as well as among professional translators and students. He has published widely in various journals and volumes, some of his papers being reprinted in the present book. The 13 chapters are a selection the series editor made from 25-30 papers published in the last 23 years. However, none of these essays was published before 1986, they thus reflect Newmark's more recent ideas on the subject, although there has always been pretty much consistency in his line of reasoning in all his publications.
