Синхронный перевод (СП)(см. Синхронный перевод; Конферец-перевод) всегда был тесно связан с применением технического оборудования, поскольку он появился и развивался как технологически зависимое средство обслуживания растущего количества международных заседаний с использованием множества языков. Первые попытки такого перевода делались еще в 1928 г. на конференции МОТ, хотя общеизвестен он стал, безусловно, в ходе работы Нюрнбергского трибунала в 1944-45 гг. (Gaiba 1988). Тем не менее, потребовался не один год, прежде чем были сняты сомнения, которые существовали по поводу такого вида перевода, в особенности, в отношении  уровня его точности. В первой школе для устных переводчиков , основанной в 1941 г. в Женеве, СП начали преподавать лишь в 1947 г..
