倫理と翻訳 [Ethics and translation]

「倫理」とは、辞書の定義によると、行動の「善・悪」を決める価値の体系である。したがって、翻訳の倫理とは、あるテクストを別の言語へ書き換えるときに、何が道徳的に正しい方法と考えられるのかを説明するものである。翻訳という概念には、必ず翻訳者の倫理的義務という意味合いが含まれるにもかかわらず、翻訳者が何らかの倫理観をもつことは一般的に当然のこととされてきたため、翻訳言説の歴史から「倫理」という言葉は欠落していた。翻訳とは、原文をできるだけそれに近いかたちで再生産しようとする作業だとされたため、倫理行動とは単に、原文と著者に対する忠実性だと考えられてきたのである。
