Cet article étudie la dislocation des syntagmes adjectivaux en français, en se fondant sur un corpus littéraire de Frantext. Trois points sont examinés : la non-référentialité des adjectifs, la question de la contrastivité des adjectifs disloqués et leurs propriétés prosodiques. D’abord, l’information exprimée par un adjectif est toujours liée au contexte précédent, et le plus souvent par un « antécédent » direct. Ensuite, le corpus permet d’observer que la dislocation des adjectifs ne semble pas contrainte par une interprétation contrastive, la majorité des occurrences n’exprimant pas de contraste. Enfin, la prosodie des adjectifs disloqués correspond à divers types de configurations, présentant à la fois des patrons prototypiques et des patrons non prototypiques.
Abstract
Dislocated adjectives in French
This paper analyses the dislocation of adjectival phrases in French, based on a literary corpus from Frantext. Three aspects are examined: the non-referentiality of adjectives, the question of the contrastivity of dislocated adjectives, and their prosodic properties. Firstly, the information conveyed by an adjective is always linked to the preceding context, most often through a direct antecedent. Secondly, the corpus reveals that the dislocation of adjectives does not seem to be constrained by a contrastive interpretation, as most occurrences do not express contrast. Finally, the prosody of dislocated adjectives corresponds to various types of configurations, presenting both prototypical and non-prototypical patterns.
