El artículo con posesivo en la prosa medieval castellana (1250-1350) como marca diferencial de concordancia The Possessive Article in Medieval Castilian Prose (1250–1350) as a Differential Marker of Agreement

The present study aims to analyze, from a variationist perspective, the alternation between the presence and absence of the article before possessives in Medieval Spanish (1250–1350). It examines the morphosyntactic agreement relationship between the participants in the possessive construction, possessor and possessed, and the linking elements, article and possessive, through the categories of person, gender, and grammatical number, on the one hand, and the features of animacy and definiteness, on the other. Within this framework, it is argued that the presence of the article in this period constitutes a grammatical unit motivated by the [+human] feature of the possessor and functions as a marker of its high position on the definiteness scale.
