“La Loba” irrumpe
La presentación del personaje en algunas traducciones al español y al
catalán del relato de Giovanni Verga. Reflexiones y una nueva propuesta
The present paper focuses on the analysis of the
translation of various excerpts of Giovanni Verga’s short story “La Lupa”
(1880), concerning the introduction of the protagonist. These specific
fragments imply difficulties due to the knowledge of specific cultural
references or peculiar semantic loads which have to be reconstructed
starting with the “Sicilianity” of the original text. The translations under
investigation are those of José Abad Baena (2011) and those of Paloma Alonso
(2017), both into Spanish, and the translation into Catalan by Rosa M. Pérez
Fuster and Xavier Lloveras (1990). Moreover, this study provides a new
proposal for a Spanish translation, which will be concluded by the end of
2024.
