La traducción al castellano de los culturemas de Le pays des
autres
Le pays des autres is the first novel
of a trilogy published in 2020 in which the author, Leïla Slimani, narrates
the arrival and adaptation of Mathide, a young Alsatian, to Meknes before
the independence of Morocco. The novel, written in French, presents many
cultural references through the use of loanwords and code-switching, which
imbues the work with a linguistic and cultural heterogeneity as well as a
sense of veracity and exotism. This study aims to identify these novel
culturems, classify loanwords and moments of code-switching and carry out an
analysis of the translation into Spanish, carried out by Malika Embarek
López, in order to verify whether the linguistic and cultural richness of
the original work has been retained.
