Guidelines for contributors

  1. Contributions should be in English. If not written by a native speaker, it is advisable to have the paper checked by a native speaker.
  2. All articles published in WL&L are double-blind peer reviewed. For initial submission, authors should therefore deliver their MANUSCRIPT in electronic form (Word or rtf, accompanied by an identical pdf-file), double spaced with 3cm margins. The first page should contain the title of the article; a self-contained abstract in English (100-150 words), and five to ten keywords.

    As WL&L has a blind reviewing policy, authors are requested to remove all identifying features from the paper by ensuring that no author's name appears in the main text, in-text citations, reference list, or any filename. Replace all references to the author with "Author, 2003", "Author et al, 2006", etc. The title of the article and the name of the journal, or book, etc., should also be removed from these references. Authors are requested to include their name, the title of their article and their full contact details on a separate title page.

    Authors are requested to list a maximum of 2 potential reviewers (with their names, affiliation details and email addresses) with the following restrictions: no current or previous mentors/supervisors, no research collaborators within the past three years, no current or previous students or post-docs, no reviewers from the same institution. The editors retain the sole right to decide whether or not suggested reviewers are contacted. Please note that normally not more than one of the reviewers for a particular manuscript will be sourced from the list of suggested names.
  1. Upon acceptance, the author will be requested to furnish the FINAL VERSION in electronic form (Word or rtf), accompanied by an identical pdf-file. For the final accepted version, the following standards should be obeyed:
  2. Spelling should be British English or American English and should be consistent throughout the paper.
  3. Authors are responsible for observing copyright laws when quoting or reproducing material. The copyright of articles published in WL&L is held by the publisher. Permission for the author to use the article elsewhere will be granted by the publisher provided full acknowledgement is given to the source.
  4. Papers should be reasonably divided into sections and, if appropriate, subsections. The headings of these subsections should be numbered in Arabic numerals (1.; 1.1; 1.1.1).
  5. Line drawings (FIGURES) should be submitted as reproducible originals. They should be numbered consecutively, and appropriate captions should be provided. Reference to any figures should be given in the appropriate place where they should appear.
  6. TABLES should be numbered consecutively and should be referred to in the main text.
  7. NOTES should appear as FOOTNOTES and should be concise, kept to a minimum, and be numbered consecutively throughout the paper.
  8. REFERENCES in the text should follow the style (Brown 1989: 224-56). The REFERENCE section should list all and only references cited in the main text. For the REFERENCE section, note the following examples:

  9. Authors are kindly requested to check their papers very carefully before submission in order to avoid delays in publication. The first author will receive a pdf-file with page proofs for final correction. One set must be returned with corrections by the dates determined by the publication schedule. Any author's alterations other than typographical corrections in the page proofs may be charged to the author.
  10. Authors of main articles as well as reviews will receive a complementary copy of the issue in which their paper appears.
  11. Manuscripts and all editorial correspondence should be sent to WL&L, to the attention of the Editor.
