Language Teaching and Learning in AustraliaEdited by Chris Mann and Richard B. Baldauf, Jr. †

This paper reviews a number of articles that have been published since 1988, just after the release of Lo Bianco’s National policy recommendations on language. The review, which covers two sections 1) theoretical LOTE issues and 2) practical LOTE issues, is by no means exhaustive. The aim of this paper is to provide teachers, students and researchers with an overview of what has been happening, theoretically and practically, in the area of LOTE teaching in Australia during the past 4 years.
Since this paper was written, a number of Australian publications have come out which should be included in any bibliography on language teaching. The editors have added these references to the article for the sake of completeness.
