Bridging the gap between curricula and industry
A case study of an undergraduate program in Jordan
This study explores whether the curriculaum of the translation program at Yarmouk University (Jordan) prepares students to meet the market’s needs or not. The discussion is informed by a needs analysis to evaluate the current trends of the market. The analysis focuses on three areas: job requirements, types of jobs and translation direction. The results of comparing the curricula of the undergraduate translation program at Yarmouk University (UTPYU) to real market needs reveal some disparities. These disparities should be taken into account and a plan of action should be followed in order to bridge the gap between academia and the market.
