Chapter 8 focuses on the relationship between participation and conflict, and between conflict management and decision-making during CISV educational activities. During activities, conflicts between children and adults are modest. When educational interactions take the form of conflict, the problem is how to reproduce them and through which kind of contributions. The chapter observes: (1) if and in which ways it is possible to ensure the reproduction of the ongoing communication process, dealing with conflicts in interactions between adults, children and adolescents; (2) the different patterns presented by conflict management, namely conflict avoidance and prevention, conflict normative resolution, request and assessment of understanding, coordination and mediation. Overall, the analysis shows that conflict management is rarely based on dialogic actions assuring effective mediation.
